As part of my classroom management system, I use a color chart. Students know how they are doing with their behavior on a daily basis. Students have responded in a positive way to this system.
I believe in second chances, therefore student who are struggling are able to move their name back up as I notice positive behaviors. Students also have the opportunity to be rewarded when they are on extra effort or higher by the end of the day.
At the end of the week students are paid according to their behavior. Students on green are paid $5 a day. Each step below the green level subtracts a dollar. Each step above the green level rewards an extra dollar.
Students are able to use their money to buy prizes and rewards on a bi-weekly basis.
ClassDojo is a creative way to increase participation and help with behavior management within your class. I thought a quick video would be a better example of this great tool. I piloted this program with a small group of struggling students and the kids really love it.
I track student behavior on a chart as a way to know what behaviors individual student's are struggling with. By tracking I can plan strategies to help them become a students ready to learn.
Encouraging my students as a group to follow classroom and school expectations has been a part of my management system as well.
I have used different strategies to do this over the years. I currently used the Jelly Bean Jar to accomplish this goal. As the class receives complements and has excellent behavior, I fill in jelly beans. As they fill up each section of the jar, a class reward is earned.
